Falcons Panthers Game

The Atlanta Falcons are one of three .500 or better teams in the NFC vying for two Wild Card berths. This week they face a team that had the chance to join those ranks with a Week 15 win, but failed to do so, and that's the Carolina Panthers. Carolina, once thought to be a Super Bowl contender, doesn't have much to play for here, while the Falcons have everything to lose. Considering that they're NFC South rivals, I fully expect the Panthers to come at Atlanta with everything they've got. Question is, will it be enough?

Falcons focus on Carolina, not their playoff scenarios
Savannah Morning News, GA - 5 hours ago
ATLANTA - The Atlanta Falcons have approached the last three games with a playoff attitude - win or go home. That hasn't worked.

But in the wacky NFC, where second chances come three and four times, there still is a way for the Falcons to still earn one of the wild-card spots if they lose to Carolina today inside the Georgia Dome.

"We knew it was going to come down to the last couple games, and here we are," tight end Alge Crumpler said. "The whole league has been up and down all year. We knew it was going to be like this."

Atlanta is one of seven teams fighting for one of three wild-card spots. The easiest way for the Falcons to qualify is to win today and at Philadelphia on New Year's Eve, and get a loss from the New York Giants or a victory by Dallas. If Atlanta loses to the Panthers, who bring a 6-8 record and an outside chance of the playoffs, the Falcons must get losses by the Giants today and Philadelphia on Monday to force a must-win regular season finale at Philadelphia.
