Falcons survive, hope to advance

(Sports Network) - The roller-coaster ride that has been the Atlanta Falcons' 2006 season may just end up with a trip to the postseason after all.

Atlanta now controls its own destiny in the NFC playoff race following Sunday's methodical 17-6 victory at Tampa Bay. The Falcons are currently battling with the Giants and Eagles for the conference's two Wild Card spots, with all three teams tied at 7-6. Atlanta will play at Philadelphia on New Year's Eve in the regular-season finale, which could wind up serving as an elimination bout.

Although the Falcons weren't exactly impressive on Sunday, considering the downtrodden state of the Buccaneers, the win -- just like last week's hard- fought victory at Washington -- at least showed that Jim Mora's team is somewhat resilient.

I say no, especially if they lose Dunn and/or Norwood for any extended length of time. They'll lose to the Cowboys on Saturday, and after that they have Carolina and Philly. I see them losing at least one of those games, too. Granted, the Eagles do have the tougher schedule, though, with New York this week and Dallas next.
