Vick sounds off to HBO

Quote:
Falcons quarterback Michael Vick returned to practice Thursday, shrugging off the discomfort from a sore shoulder that kept him from practicing Wednesday. Vick hurt his shoulder in last Sunday's 27-14 loss to the New York Giants then had it aggravated on a late hit, out-of-bounds, from Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce late in the game.
Vick told HBO's Cris Carter, on a segment of Inside the NFL, which aired Wednesday and will be replayed during the week that, "It's the worst I ever felt," after the Giants game. Vick was sacked a career-high seven times.

"You've got to throw the ball sometimes," Vick said. "You can't just line up and run the ball every time on first and second down. Teams key in on that and they have coaches, too. We're going to have to throw it more ... Coach [Jim Mora] is going have to trust in me to get it done and I'm up to the challenge to get it done."

Carter: "It seems as if when Coach [Dan] Reeves, who drafted you, when he was here, you threw the ball as effective or even better, and definitely more than you throw the ball now."

Vick: "When Reeves was here, I was 50 yards shy of 3,000 yards passing, and I was among top 15 in passing in NFL. Coach Reeves, he believed in me and gave me a chance to throw the football."

• Carter: "Do you ever sit back and say, 'Man, you know, I wish I had Chad Johnson. I wish I had a Randy Moss ...'"

Vick: "Or a Marvin Harrison. ... I always think about that, Cris. I always think, if I played in Indianapolis, what type of effect would I have on that team? Or what would I be able to do different? It's something I wish I could do for just one week."

disgruntled employee ?

and how long can Mora have left in town after Vick sounds off like this ?

i have to agree it does seem odd they have never tried to get him with TO or Moss or someone like that

Re: Vick sounds off to HBO

Funny they should bring this up -- I was just wondering the other day (and I think I posted it somewhere...) what Vick and the Falcons would look like today if Reeves was still the head coach. For all the talk at the time about how the West Coast Offense would make Vick a better quarterback, it sure hasn't happened. I'm sure Mora's a lame duck if the Falcons miss the playoffs. But here's the thing: if the West Coast offense isn't right for Vick, then what approach WILL work well for him? What kind of coach and playcalling philosophy should they look for?

Wow, that's pretty strong. Everyone knows besides Crumpler and Dunn, Vick has never had a good receiver to throw to. Blame Rich McKay, their GM. If Vick wants to throw more, why not tell your ball coach?

But you gotta feel for him at least somewhat. He has an amazing arm but seemingly no accuracy and his coaches aren't doing anything to help him.

Nothing's changed in my book, Gotham. As it stands, right now, Vick is an overrated quarterback. But with some coaching and a different offense, he still has the potential to be a good QB, maybe even as good as McNabb, Manning and Brady. He's just not there yet, as much as the media and certain fans want him to be.

Nope...for over-rated he needs a supporting cast to make it offical...at best he gets an "Incomplete grade" for the talent he has around him on the passing game...

Re: Vick sounds off to HBO

Every great QB has had a great or very good wideout. Perhaps Brett Favre never had a guy like that but his compliments were always a tremendous o-line and great RBs. With Vick, he's had marginal wideouts at best.

so, i suppose by these criteria, Brady is one of the greatest QB's to ever throw a ball ?

Crumpler is atleast as good, and maybe better, as any receiver Brady has ever had

Hmm... there are some who would argue that Brady IS, in fact, one of the best QB's of all time. But I guess that's a debate for another time and another thread, eh? Tom Brady - Greatest QB Ever?

Re: Vick sounds off to HBO

The west coast offense is simply trying to make Vick into something he's not or at least it's a system not suited to maximize his strong points. Still they have a good record and an even better defense but Vick struggles terribly sometimes with that system.
