In order to maintain their desire to prove to be legitimate postseason contenders, the Braves certainly weren't in a position where they could test Javier Vazquez's mental health by yet again squandering one of his gems.
But on the way to preserving his latest masterpiece with a 2-1 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night, the Braves certainly forced Vazquez to feel some of the same stress that has seemingly accompanied him with his every trip to the mound this year.
"It feels good to get the win," Vazquez said after winning for just the second time in nine starts. "We played great baseball and that's why it feels great." While breaking their three-game losing streak and moving back to within four games of the front-running Phillies in the National League East, the Braves backed Vazquez's seven solid innings with strong defense and a pair of timely two-out hits from Brian McCann.
