Could Greg Maddux be coming back to the Atlanta Braves? That's one of the rumors surrounding the NL East team, who may also deal Jorge Sosa to Colorado for Ray King. Any other good Braves trade rumors floating around right now?

If you missed it, closer Bob Wickman went to Atlanta a couple days ago. Max Ramirez is gone but not a big loss for the Bravos.

Another Braves trade rumors that is floating around:

Wilson Betemit traded to the San Diego Padres? He's hot right now and that's probably the biggest reason why this rumor got started. The talk is that Atlnata would get Scott Linebrink who may be a closer for them.

That's 2 closers but Jamie Kirby over at the Braves MVN blog says they need a starter.

The Braves are only ahead of Baltimore, Kansas City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, and Toronto in QSP (and are tied with the Cubs). If the Braves are going to make the playoffs, the starters are going to have to do a better job of keeping the game close, or acquire another starter in a trade. It’s not just the bullpen that’s just screwing us up.

I'm not seeing any trade rumors on starters. Anybody want to chime in on that?

Lots of talk about a possible deal involving switch-hitting infielder Wilson Betemit. Betemit could be header to the Yankees for Scott Proctor or to the Padres. Not sure who San Diego's offering, just that they're interested.

Drums are beating loudly for Betemit to Yanks for Proctor in Atlanta Journal Constitution this morning. I'd love to see Proctor come over, but Betemit is too valuable--what if Chipper goes down, or Edgar--or Giles---Betemit backs them all up with fine glove and big bat--he will be a superstar one day---don't do it Braves!!

As we discussed yesterday in the Yankees portion of the Forum, they have no real use for Wilson Betemit. He is a solid secondbaseman, but they seem set on Robinson Cano for the future. Betemit just looks as if he might as well join the other players the Yankees don't and didn't need but signed them anyway.

I heard a few ridiculous rumors about Alex Rodriguez coming to Atlanta. Forget about it!

What is going on with Braves putting Andruw on waivers?

From what I understand, nearly all MLB players get put on waivers at some point. 99% of the time they don't get claimed, but if they do, usually some sort of small-fry deal is worked out to get the second team to drop their claim on the player. At least that's how I had it described to me at one point.

I think the way it works, is if they're claimed they can be pulled back by the team. If they get through and nobody claims them, they can then be traded.
