| Justice, Rocker among ex-Braves in Mitchell Report ![]() Former Atlanta Braves outfielders David Justice and Gary Sheffield and pitcher John Rocker were among several players listed in the Mitchell Report, linking them to steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. Other former Braves in the report include pitcher Denny Neagle, Paul Byrd, Kent Mercker and Mike Stanton, catcher Todd Pratt and infielder Matt Franco. Sheffield was included in the report because of his connection with Bay Area Laboratory Co-operative (BALCO), a company involved in a drug scandal involving high-profile athletes from several sports. But the report did not directly link Sheffield to the purchase of any performance-enhancing drugs. According to former Mets clubhouse assistant Kirk Radomski, the primary source used in the report, he made one sale of human growth hormone to Justice, then playing with the Yankees, after the 2000 World Series. Justice paid Radomski by check for two or three kits of human growth hormone. Former Yankees trainer Brian McNamee recalled that Justice asked him about human growth hormone in 2000 or 2001, while McNamee and Justice were both with the Yankees. According to McNamee, Justice admitted in this conversation that he had obtained human growth hormone from Radomski. According to the report, Sports Illustrated reported earlier this year that Rocker received two prescriptions for human growth hormone (somatropin) between April and July 2003, according to the Applied Pharmacy Services database. Rocker initially denied the allegations, according to the report, but his spokesperson later reportedly said that Rocker had been prescribed human growth hormone in connection with shoulder surgery. | Re: Justice, Rocker among ex-Braves in Mitchell Report I'm willing to bet that since Pettitte has come out and said that he only used it to get healthy quickly that there will be others who admit to it but only for medicinal reasons. |

It is an excuse that more fans are willing to forgive though. |

| Re: Justice, Rocker among ex-Braves in Mitchell Report Yeah, well, kind of grumpy this morning. But you're right, most fans will overlook that - not knowing that's why 99% of these guys take it in the first place. The illusion that steroids and HGH are just meant to make you bigger and stronger is still way to prevalent. That said, I really wish Justice's name didn't come up. I liked him, man. Some players you just don't want to believe are dirty.

| Re: Justice, Rocker among ex-Braves in Mitchell Report I agree 100%. Somewhere last night I posted that I tend to agree with the thought that the admission of abuse and use is officially out there for baseball and that we need to move forward and crack down from this point on. Keep in mind that this is the statement from MLB. I also added that maybe the stat keepers NOW need to consider, at a minimum, that an asterisk be placed next to the players names in the record books if in fact they admit to or are found guilty of use/abuse. The next step is the court of law and how they deal with these issues. The degree of punishment could/should be decided by them since MLB has no legal authority to do anything other than some form of suspension or fine.
