The Braves kept up an efficient offseason pace Tuesday, filling two needs with one trade by acquiring left-handed reliever Will Ohman and utility player Omar Infante from the Chicago Cubs for rookie reliever Jose Ascanio.
"These two guys fit exactly what we were looking for," Braves general manager Frank Wren said after completing the deal on the second day of the baseball's four-day winter meetings.Ohman is a replacement for veteran lefty
Ron Mahay, expected to sign a rich free-agent contract with another team. Infante played six positions last season for Detroit and will be Atlanta's primary utility man and backup shortstop.
Outfielder Willie Harris was designated for assignment to open a spot on the 40-man roster. The Braves could re-sign the Cairo native to a minor-league contract if Harris isn't picked up by another team.
Tuesday's trade stemmed from discussions Wren had in October with Detroit GM Dave Dombrowski (Wren's former boss with the Marlins) about a possible trade for Infante, 26, who hit .271 with two homers and 17 RBIs in 166 at-bats.
