A source deeply involved in the baseball labor market (via a connection of mine) tells me that the buzz around the player agent networks is that
Andruw Jones is "highly considering" firing Scott Boras. The source said that Jones is bothered by the fact that the A-Rod mess happened and that
Kenny Rogers fired the super-agent, and that
Torii Hunter (and not Jones) is getting wined and dined by teams ranging from the
Dodgers and
White Sox to the
Rangers and
Royals.
Also, Jones is starting to openly wonder if Boras has burned too many bridges, with the Dodgers'
Nick Coletti (after the
J.D. Drew mess last year) and the
Yankees' Hank Steinbrenner (after
A-Rod part I) refusing to negotiate with Boras. Both the Dodgers and Yankees are deep-pocketed teams, and both could potentially use a center fielder depending on what the Yankees do with
Johnny Damon.
Plus, it sounds like Jones is willing to take a one year contract to "re-establish his value" like
Eric Gagne did, but Boras is dead set against it much to Jones' disapproval.
Don't be surprised if Jones finds different representation before the month is out.
