Phil Nevin was in a state of shock yesterday afternoon as he surveyed his Poway neighborhood that is home to several professional athletes. "It looks like Mars," said the former Padres first baseman, a few hours later after evacuating his home. "The house across the street was engulfed in flames. It burned down in like an hour." Nevin, speaking by cell phone as he headed toward Orange County, said his home and the nearby home of Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson had survived fire that swept across northern San Diego – but fire destroyed the Poway home of former major league outfielder David Justice.
