ATLANTA -- There's no longer reason to speculate about Andruw Jones' future in Atlanta. General manager John Schuerholz announced on Tuesday afternoon that his plans for the 2008 season no longer include the Gold Glove center fielder.

Just two days into the offseason, Schuerholz has already answered the primary question he would've been asked over the next few weeks and months. He was able to make this quick decision when it became apparent that the contractual demands of Jones' agent, Scott Boras, weren't even close to what the Braves were willing and capable of offering. Jones, who has been one of the team's most popular figures since his arrival in 1996, was informed of the decision during a Tuesday meeting with Schuerholz.

Unless they can get another great glove in that spot, it's interesting to see how many balls land out there. So many times Jones made tremendous catch after tremendous catch to save runs.

Well, at least both sides have plenty of time to make arrangements for next year. Still going to be strange seeing Jones in anything but a Braves uniform, though.

I hate it but life moves on. Boras is the problem - Jones wants to stay but Boras wants to build his own reputation regardless. I remember when the Braves drafted Bob Horner and his agent took the stance of all or nothing and the fans never accepted Horner after that.

If Jones wants to stay, he'll work out a deal. If not, he's gone.

I wish you were right - but Boras won't let it happen - he can't. His pitch to future clients will always be - look how much money I got for so and so - I'm the man.

Andruw won't get the 7-years max money he's looking for. Atlanta can't afford him probably even at a reduced rate.

Boras is a jack$@&. These players are making unreal money. I don't want to see andruw in anything but a braves uniform. He's been a pillar there.

Exactly, Id rather spend the money on tex than andruw, I hate to see andruw leave but we can replace him, hes not worth that kind of money, his batting avg was .222 at the end and thats unheard of..

He is a home run hitter and great fielder. He has only batted over .300 one time in his career and that was in 2000. All other years he has not batted higher than .277. He has just been a home run and RBI machine.

In the past yes he was but hes getting older and all the wear and tear of the defensive plays are catching up with him now..Hes not worth what boras is asking..
