Braves closer Bob Wickman has struggled in road games all season and came within a few feet Wednesday of a second blown save in two nights at Turner Field.
But manager Bobby Cox is not considering changing closers or splitting the duties. In fact, the manager praised Wickman's season performance."He's pitched great," Cox said of the veteran, who is 3-2 with a 3.83 ERA and has converted 20 of 26 save opportunities in 47 appearances.
Wickman's .262 opponents' average includes .288 with runners in scoring position.
After the sixth inning of close games, his .264 opponents' average and .341 opponents' on-base percentage are the highest among active Braves relievers.
"He's only had a few bad games," Cox said, reciting them from memory, including two of the three blown saves that cost potential wins for Tim Hudson.
