yea im not big trading salty either unless we can get someone really good..I havent heard of Livan being on the trade block, hes been struggling this year hasnt he?

According to officials with two different teams, who asked not to be identified because talks are ongoing, the Diamondbacks have been calling around to see how interested teams would be in Livan Hernandez. Renterria for garland?

Teams aren't offering the kind of prospects White Sox GM Ken Williams is seeking in return for pitchers Jose Contreras and Javier Vazquez, so he's listening when they ask about Jon Garland, who is signed through 2008 and is scheduled to make $12 million next year. The Yankees have expressed some interest, as have the Braves, who reportedly have offered shortstop Edgar Renteria in return (thinking they can play Yunel Escobar at shortstop in Renteria's place). Garland is a long shot to move before Tuesday. -- Star-Ledger

Late last night, the Braves and the Texas Rangers were said to be close to a deal that would send first baseman Mark Teixeira and a relief pitcher (such as C.J. Wilson, Ron Mahay or Joaquin Benoit) to Atlanta for Jarrod Saltalamacchia, shortstop prospect Elvis Andrus and a minor-league pitcher. The Braves are set at catcher, now and for the near future, with All-Star Brian McCann. They like the 22-year-old Saltalamacchia enough that they've been trying to find him big-league at-bats as a first baseman and pinch hitter. But other teams like him, too, and if the Braves want to pull a major move to try and overtake the Mets and win back the NL East, they're going to have to consider putting Saltalamacchia in a deal. -- Star-Ledger

The new rumors around the Braves and Teixeira have ATL sending Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Matt Harrison, and Elvis Andrus to Texas for the slugger. This is from MLB Trade Rumors.

Damn, I really hope the Braves don't get him and he goes to Anaheim or elsewhere.

The deal is still around, although Yahoo!'s reporting that the third player might be Brent Lillibridge instead of Elvis Andrus. Texas may wind up making Braves and Dodgers sweat it out right up until the Tuesday deadline.

Some places are saying the D-Backs have gotten involved in the Teixeira sweepstakes. It still sounds like the Braves are the favorites.

Vince, do you think it's a worthwhile cause in trading all those prospects for a slugger who may leave once he hits free-agency?

I think so, we dont have a set 1b and havent in a while, we need his bat and adding him to the roster makes our lineup more potent, I hate to lose salty cause hes a real good talent but were set at catcher, I think if we sign tex he will stick with us..with andruw prob leaving wewill need him..

I only brought up that point because I read a comparison between Teixeira and JD Drew in that both are from the area and Drew ended up leaving.
