Braves trying to deal for Reds Arroyo?

The Braves have been trying to swing a deal for Reds right-hander Bronson Arroyo. But the Reds' asking price so far has been too steep -- they've asked that top hitting prospect Jarrod Saltalamacchia be included in the deal, and the Braves don't want to deal Saltalamacchia, who may be their regular first baseman for the rest of the season. -- Star-Ledger

The Reds are stupid. Arroyo is alright, but absolutely NOT worth Salty. Salty should bring us more of a front of the line pitcher

I think they'd probably need to know why he's been struggling first, like if it's some kind of injury or something. If it's something that's just temporary, I think he's absolutely worth it. But knowing Loria, he'd want Salty, Yunel, and probably half the team for him

The Reds aren't stupid. They are following the market value. Look at what pitchers are making this year even for average pitching. Lilly and Meche are the first that come to mind. Arroyo is also signed fairly cheaply with a multi year contract. That could come in handy for a few teams.

Why would an unproven catcher/1B be an even swap for a proven, winning, former cy young candidate, left handed , starting pitcher. Saltalamchia may have the potential to be a great player, but not an even swap for D train. He would have to be involved in the deal. How many times have a first year player looked great only to fizzle out?

salty hits hard, and has thrown several runners out in his limited playing time, willis has only went 6+ innings twice out of his last 7 games..

Re: Braves trying to deal for Reds Arroyo?

Arroyo's market value does not equal Salty. When the Pirates are willing to offer Ian Snell with his 7-7 record, 3.31 era, we would absolutely be stupid to consider Arroyo. When you're 4-10 with a 4.51 era you're not going to command a big, or promising return. Arroyo probably could help somebody, but not us.

OK he hits the ball hard, and has thrown out some runners, but you said it best in his limited playing time. Willis is a proven start with a great track record. Yes, he is having a down year, but that happens to everybody. There are rumors that he is playing hurt.

Carlos Quinten hit the ball hard last season getting a lot of HRs and RBI in his limited playing time. This year he couldn't hit .200 and was sent packing. That is why it would not be an even trade with the two. Salty has not been around long enough to garner a pitcher of Willis's caliber. Right now he would be in the trade for Willis.

By the way, the Braves would be stupid to trade him. I also think he is going to be good.
