| Cox passes Sparky Anderson With his Atlanta Braves' win over the Pittsburgh Pirates yesterday, manager Bobby Cox tied the legendary Sparky Anderson for fourth place on the all-time career wins list. According to the Associated Press, Cox has a "2,194-1,698 record in 26 seasons with the Braves and Blue Jays. Cox got his 2,194th victory in his 3,895th game, counting three ties, while Anderson -- the former Reds and Tigers manager -- needed 4,030 games. The leader is Connie Mack (3,731), who managed for a record 53 seasons."

| Re: Cox passes Sparky Anderson I agree. Cox, who officially passed Anderson yesterday (he had only tied him on Friday), is one of the best managers if not the best skipper of his era. He now trails only Connie Mack, John McGraw and Tony La Russa on the all-time list. As Jeff Francoeur told reporters after the game, "We couldn't be more excited, you couldn't get it for a better guy. Look at the guys he's passed, Sparky Anderson -- it's hard sometimes to realize because he's your manager, but they're going to talk about him for a long time. There's no doubt he's a Hall of Fame manager." |
