Remember a while back when Jimmy Rollins said publicly the Phillies were the class of the NL East and were the team to beat?...Well, Chipper Jones didn't think it was a "nice" thing to say.

From the NY Times...

“That’s the difference in the mentality in Atlanta and the mentality in Philadelphia,” Chipper Jones, the Braves’ leader, said when asked about Rollins’s remark. “We would have never disrespected the rest of the division by proclaiming ourselves division champs before the beginning of the season. The fact that he did, that has rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. As far as I can remember, I don’t think he has ever won a division. We’ll leave it at that.”

Andruw Jones added this: “We’ll stay quiet and do our own thing,” Jones said, “and we’ll see who’s standing at the top in September.”

Can't wait for this season to start

yea but the problem with that is this, chipper cheating on his wife with a hooters waitress has nothing to do with chippers respect for baseball, I'm not saying cheating on his wife was right but your comparing 2 different things. His homelife is his business, Chipper has never ran his mouth and disrepected players and teams before any games were played or during the season, he's always acted professional, now outside of baseball question his character all you want, main point is this jimmy rollins ran his mouth and acted unprofessional and chipper called him on it, more importantly rollins ran his mouth when in recent history he has no proof to back his statements..especially with his teams 1-6 start..

That's your take...mine is...Rollins opened his mouth and Chip said he was being disrepectful...at that point Chipster has opened his mouth...and he is free game...much like Rollins is free game...being a public figure of sort and one who for many years prior, held himself to a lofty status along the lines of moral conduct, while in and out of a uniform...he is soooo free game...thus I, having freedom of expression on this thread, can come along and say, "Chip buddy, go look up the word before you use it...I don't think it means what you think it means"...

And by the way, didn't know the word disrespect has meaning only within the lines of the field...Either you have integrity and respect overall or you don't...but hey, free country, you are allowed to split hairs on the topic if you so desire...

so with that said, I am saying (again) Who is Chipper Jones to lecture anyone on a word he really is not an expert on?...perhaps Chipster (who I actually like as a player) should become a bit better acquainted with the word before he decides to clue another player in on the meaning of the word...

What's more, right, wrong or indifferent, Rollins is entitled to give whatever opinion he wants on the matter...as an opinion he holds he does not even need to back it...

I hear what your saying goth, I wasn't trying to split the hairs,I was just pointing out the baseball aspect of it, this is actually the first time hearing about chippers cheating, I went and read up on it, Im suprised I hadn't heard about it being a braves fan since 92', I will say this, It's a general rule that If your gonna talk trash , you need to back it up. yes , rollins can have an opinion and doesnt have to back it up, but when he talks smack and he doesnt back it up, well that makes him look like a fool, because he was speaking on behalf of the phillies. so even though hes doing well, his team thats supposedly the best in the division is not doing too hot, granted were only 7 or so games in the season. agree or disagree?

Yep vincesanity my man...Rollins was talking trash... and he did it on behalf of his team...and well...its early but he put a lot of undue pressure on himself...bottom line, he was an idiot to do so...but then we would not have all sorts of posts on the topic...

Having said that, between the lines the Chipster is a class act...I remember him getting drafted by the Braves...picked up a ton of his rookie cards that year...

Yeah, I was a bit disappointed in Chipper...I always thought he was a great role model...his star lost a bit of shine for a while...but I think he is doing okay now...
