Mike Hampton injury

More injury trouble for Mike Hampton. In the midst of trying to come back from ligament-replacement surgery on his elbow, Hampton strained an oblique muscle in his left side. He will be out for at least two months. At one time, this guy was a pretty darn good pitcher... after all these injuries, though, can he still be a halfway decent hurler?

Re: Mike Hampton injury

I think he is done. He isn't young anymore, and he can't play catch with himself without getting hurt now. He was a good pitcher once, so maybe he should concentrate on being a pitching coach to help the younger players.

I must agree with azrael492 on this one.

I recall his days with the Mets, and they were not always so pleasant.

He doesn't have a lot of gas left in his tank, and he would be too old (baseball-wise) to make a stunning comeback in the majors.

The best he is, is probably a third rotation guy in your fantasy baseball pitching staff.

Re: Mike Hampton injury

Well, bad news for Hampton. He's going to miss the entire season.

According to the AP, "Mike Hampton will have surgery on his left elbow on Tuesday in New York, leaving the Atlanta Braves without one of their starting pitchers for the second straight season... Hampton, who had elbow ligament-replacement surgery performed by Dr. Dave Altchek on Sept. 26, 2005, will have a torn tendon in the elbow repaired by Altchek on Tuesday. He is expected to be held out of pitching activities for at least six months."

I think this clinches it then. Has there ever been a case before where a pitcher has gone this long without pitching and was able to come back. Let alone at his age.
