While Houston Nutt got a first meeting adjustment to Arkansas'athletics director to-be, his 1-0 Razorbacks continue adjusting to their SEC opener and first road game Saturday night at Alabama. Kickoff is 5: 45 p.m. and televised by ESPN.
Nutt talked Tuesday with Jeff Long, the athletics director from the University of Pittsburgh named Tuesday to be the Razorbacks' AD effective when Frank Broyles retires Jan. 1 to athletics director emeritus. " I had just a short time to meet with him for the first time [Tuesday ], " Nutt said. " It was good to meet him. " All coaches are bound to be a little apprehensive about a new boss, especially with Broyles having been at Arkansas for 50 years, including 34 as AD.
" The thing about athletics, there is always a change and as a coach change sometimes is hard, " Nutt said. " He seems like a great guy. I'm looking forward to getting to know him more and knowing him better as time goes on. "
Nutt said he was heartened by Pittsburgh coach Dave Wannstedt's strong endorsement of Long. Wannstedt, the former Miami Dolphins head coach, and Nutt go way back to the 1980 s as coaching colleagues on Jimmy Johnson's staffs at Oklahoma State.
For Nutt and his Razorbacks, coming off an open date week while Alabama is 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the SEC winning 24-10 last Saturday at Vanderbilt, a big change defensively is going against the smashmouth attack of Alabama after facing a finesse offense in their 46-26 victory over Troy University Sept. 1 in Fayetteville.
