| Mitch Mustain Transfers To Souththern California Mitch Mustain Transfers to Southern Cal Last Edited: Monday, 21 May 2007, 8:39 PM CDTCreated: Monday, 21 May 2007, 8:39 PM CDT LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Quarterback Mitch Mustain, who went 8-0 as a freshman starter last season for Arkansas, has transferred to Southern California. Mustain, who will have three years of eligibility remaining after sitting out next season, is enrolled at USC for summer school and attending classes, sports information director Tim Tessalone confirmed Monday. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Mustain was a prized recruit after completing over 70 percent of his passes in 2005 for the undefeated state championship team at Springdale, Ark. He enrolled at Arkansas along with three of his high school teammates. In addition, Springdale coach Gus Malzahn was hired as the Razorbacks' offensive coordinator. After Arkansas lost to USC 50-14 to begin last season, Mustain was made the starter. The Razorbacks won their next eight games with an offense that revolved around tailback Darren McFadden, the Heisman Trophy runner-up. Casey Dick took over as the starting quarterback in the season's 10th game. Mustain and Dick both played in the Razorbacks' 17-14 loss to Wisconsin in the Capital One Bowl. Arkansas, the SEC West champion, finished the season 10-4 and ranked 15th in the nation. Malzahn left afterward to join the coaching staff at Tulsa, and Mustain asked for and received his release to transfer. Mustain completed 69 of 132 passes for 894 yards and 10 touchdowns with nine interceptions for the Razorbacks. Wide receiver Damian Williams, also from Springdale, transferred from Arkansas to USC as well. Williams will also have three years of eligibility remaining after sitting out next season. Mustain is expected to compete for the starting quarterback position in 2008 with Mark Sanchez, who completed 3-of-7 passes for 63 yards for USC as a freshman last fall. John David Booty, who passed for 3,347 yards and 29 touchdowns for the Trojans last season, will be a senior next year.

| Re: Mitch Mustain Transfers To Souththern California Mustain may regret his decision in chosing USC, he may get lucky and start one season-his senior year. USC is stacked, if he wanted some serious playing time there were plenty of other options at top tier Div.1 programs to consider. |

| Re: Mitch Mustain Transfers To Souththern California do not know much about the the Bush/USC deal...but enough to know if other programs had pulled that stunt it wouldn't have taken this long for the NCAA to slam another college for doing so. however if the NCAA allow the to Sooner's to scate thru their muliltiple recent infractions in various sports programs in particular football (including the recent Bomar & several other players on his football team payoff's)-the same company that gave Peterson a new high dollar vehicle...the slightest most remote crediblility the NCAA infractions committee has left is scrapped. I'm a Longhorn, and couldn't believe the hammer they dropped on 'Bama for reported violations that were not above either programs metioned above. Yes 'Bama was due a penalties, but not to the extent the NCAA came down on them__ taking into consideration whats being currently "investigated". Admire 'Bama for weathering that storm, then place icing on the proverbial cake 'hold the rope' by that low down lying scroundrel slug now coaching at Texas A&M. Honestly think the NCAA comittee had thought they dealt 'Bama the death penalty without calling a 'spade a spade'. How many other collegiate football program's could with stood that 'hammer meet anvil' slam 'Bama took in the chin? My guess, somewhere between zero to none. And now poised to make a strong comeback in a reatively short period after receiving those sanctions. Those who think Saban will not get 'Bama back into the national champion run are sadly mistaken. Since following collegiate football in the early 1960's when Namath was a Tider, and thinking the odds of a Longhorn win was slim to none in the 1963 bowl game (the Cotton?). I've admired their grit, never give up agains all odds attitude since 'day one'. imo-following collegiate football since the time period mentioned above...over 40 years. I'm not knocking LSU in the least, but without 'Bama in mix for a strong run at the NC each year has been odd in the sense that without seeing 'Bama, almost each season, in the top five range has been odd. As a future opponent (whenever that time rolls around, which will not be that far down the road) of the Rolling Tide, this Longhorn wants to see them back near the top each season. I hold, on the other hand, that the only poll worth 25 cents would be an opinion canvass of the Arkansas football team. Stalwarts like McFadden have hotly defended Nutt and expressed their extreme displeasure at his critics. I fear they are so angry they might go on a crusade this fall and beat the bejesus out of every foe they meet in an attempt to redeem Houston's name. Since Alabama (of which I am a fan) could be one of these victims, I am in favor of calming them down, short of lacing their Gatorade with Valium. The only possibility in the whole affair, of which I am absolutely certain, is the likelihood that Houston won't be getting recruits from Springdale High any time soon, |
