Air Zona offense

"Air Zona"

That's the name Lance Madden of the Arizona Daily Wildcat gave to the Wildcats offense this year under new offensive coordinator Sonny Dykes.

According to Madden, "Junior quarterback Willie Tuitama... launched passes to a plethora of receivers during a 7-on-7 skeleton passing period on the first day [of practice], completing 14 of 18 attempts. Anthony Johnson snagged a pass one-handed, and Terrell Turner caught one 25 yards downfield behind the defense. There were no fumbles and no picks." So far, so good. So what should we expect out of "Air Zona" in 2007?

Better than Booty? That's some high praise.

I see Tuitama play almost every game he's played, he is pretty good but there is still Nate Longshore at Cal as well as John David Booty at USC. Rudy Carpenter at ASU isn't too bad either ( god help me for saying anything good about the Scum Devils) so Tuitama has a lot to prove yet to be considered the best in the conference. The new offense will likely go through some growing pains, if Tuitama doesn't read the defense properly, as well as his WRs reading the defense, there could be some ugly mistakes early on.
