| Arizona Girls Win 8th Softball Title Taryne Mowatt finished what she started and Arizona won its eighth NCAA softball title, breaking loose against Tennessee ace Monica Abbott for a 5-0 victory Wednesday night in the Women's College World Series. The top-seeded Wildcats (50-14-1) lost the opener in the best-of-three championship series, then bounced back to win the final two games. Mowatt (42-12) pitched all 60 innings in the tournament for Arizona and became the first pitcher to win seven games in the event. It was scoreless in the fifth inning when Arizona scored all five runs. Jenae Leles hit a two-run single and Chelsie Mesa added a three-run homer for the Wildcats (50-14-1). ![]() Hot Arizona pitcher Taryne Mowatt http://www.mercurynews.com/breakings...nclick_check=1 |

| Re: Arizona=NCAA Softball Champs! My guess is that you too would fail to hit the ball out of the infield, if you hit the ball at all. The pitching rubber is only 43 feet from home plate and by the time it's released is around 38 feet from the plate. These girls throw off speed pitches and high or low risers that top 70mph. The high riser looks good at first but by the time it reaches the plate it is at eye level and near impossible to hit. Then next pitch could be a screwball or change with a 25mph difference in velocity which gives any batter fits. You have your opinion and that's cool, but I will never agree with you. |
