Arizona Girls Win 8th Softball Title

Taryne Mowatt finished what she started and Arizona won its eighth NCAA softball title, breaking loose against Tennessee ace Monica Abbott for a 5-0 victory Wednesday night in the Women's College World Series. The top-seeded Wildcats (50-14-1) lost the opener in the best-of-three championship series, then bounced back to win the final two games.
Mowatt (42-12) pitched all 60 innings in the tournament for Arizona and became the first pitcher to win seven games in the event.
It was scoreless in the fifth inning when Arizona scored all five runs. Jenae Leles hit a two-run single and Chelsie Mesa added a three-run homer for the Wildcats (50-14-1).

Arizona=NCAA Softball Champs!

Arizona defended their national championship with a 5-0 win over Monica Abbott and the Lady Vols of Tennessee. Taryne Mowatt of Arizona shut out Tennessee on back to back nights to clinch their 8th title in 20 years! Props to Tennessee for a great season and to Monica Abbott who is truly one of the greatest softball pitchers to ever play the game. Mowatt is only a sophomore, won the MVP and is likely to lead Arizona back to the World Series again next year. (Arizona has made the World Series 19 of the last 20 years) Chelsie Mesa hit a huge 3-run HR to pretty much ice the game for Mowatt. I personally know Chelsie from 2 years ago when she was playing at Pima College here in Tucson and was in a couple of my classes. 4 of the girls from that Pima College team, which happened to win the NJCAA National Championship 2 times in 3 years, played in this world series. 2 play for Arizona, the other 2 went to Baylor and it was pretty fun to watch them all play on national TV. WTG Wildcats! Let's go back and do it again next year.

PS: I will be attending Arizona starting next year as I pursue my Optical Engineering Degree as I have been working towards that degree and also an electronics degree which I already recieved from Pima College.

Well, if you're looking for homeruns, you won't get many of those. But the pitching match-ups are anything but "lame".

My guess is that you too would fail to hit the ball out of the infield, if you hit the ball at all. The pitching rubber is only 43 feet from home plate and by the time it's released is around 38 feet from the plate. These girls throw off speed pitches and high or low risers that top 70mph. The high riser looks good at first but by the time it reaches the plate it is at eye level and near impossible to hit. Then next pitch could be a screwball or change with a 25mph difference in velocity which gives any batter fits. You have your opinion and that's cool, but I will never agree with you.
