Arizona Clinches Playoff Birth

The Arizona Diamondbacks, with their win on Friday, have clinched a playoff spot in 2007. The magic number to win the NL West is only two games so they can clinch Saturday (Arizona win + Padres loss).

Even if Arizona loses Saturday & Sunday and San Diego and the Mets win the rest of the way, Arizona has a playoff spot.

Simply amazing to me is Arizona is the first NL team to reach 90 wins.

Who would have thunk it?

Most people figured they were going to win yesterday with Webb on the hill, and they did. And they did it against what was probably the hottest team in baseball. When a team can pull that off, it's time to start liking their chances in the playoffs. Sure seems like the Diamonbacks have a fair shot of getting all the way to the World Series, doesn't it?

Due to tiebreakers, the Diamondbacks clinched the NL West division before they even stepped foot on a field Saturday evening. With the Padres losing in extra inninings to the Brewers, the DBacks became kings of the west once again.

I'd never doubt a team that can throw Brandon Webb to the mound. Although their other starters don't scare as much.

They will probably fave the Cubs because i don't see the an NL West team in the Wild Card so i will start scouting them now.

Or I will just wait and watch.

If the wild card comes from the east, the DBacks will play them. The DBacks have the best record in the NL so they will either play:

a) the wild card team (if the team is not the Padres/Rockies)
b) the division winner with the worst record (if the team is the Padres/Rockies)

So the Cubs are still waiting to know who they'll play. Either Arizona or the NL East Division Winner.

I know but I really don't see the Mets or Phillies winning the Wild Card
