Arizona P José Valverde

José Valverde of the Arizona Diamondbacks has 35 saves, a 2.98 ERA, 57 strikeouts and a 1-4 record in 2007. Being in the Eastern Time Zone, I really haven't gotten to watch this kid much. How would you rank him among the top closers in the National League?

Re: Arizona P José Valverde

Valverde notched his 37th save in 43 chances yesterday as Arizona beat Florida, 5-4.

After the game, D-Backs second baseman Orlando Hudson called Valverde "the best closer in the game." Is he right?

Re: Arizona P José Valverde

You can't argue with the results. He leads the majors in saves now and is a key contributor to the Diamondbacks amazing season. The bullpen is pretty strong at the back end of games with Tony Pena in the 7th, Brandon Lyon in the 8th, and Valverde in the 9th.

On a side note, they released Byung-Hyun Kim after 2 disasterous starts and recalled Yusmeiro Petit back to the rotation, he should have stayed all along. Petit will start Sunday in Atlanta.
