Re: Luis Gonzalez milestone countdown .285 lifetime hitter with over 1200 RBI, but only 5 Hall of Fame caliber seasons. Also, his 2001 total of 57 homers is 26 more than his next best year and 33 more than his average year. Always was very suspicious of that year. Similar to Brady Anderson's 50 home run season. From all accounts a great guy in the community, but only led the majors in one major category for one year, 206 hits in 1999. Definitely not a Hall of Famer.

Re: Luis Gonzalez milestone countdown Gonzo hit an RBI double in the 6th yesterday against San Francisco and has indeed become the 21st player in MLB history with 300 home runs and 500 doubles. Ironically, the only other active player in the group was also on the field yesterday - Barry Bonds, who has 708 homers and 567 doubles. "I've looked at the list a couple of times, and I've just marveled at some of the guys that are on that list," Gonzalez told reporters after the game. "Just to have your name associated with that -- you know, I was a small kid out of Tampa when I started playing minor league baseball. I always say I don't have all the best skills, but I'm going to go out there and give you everything I've got."

Re: Luis Gonzalez milestone countdown There's not a chance Luis Gonzalez is a HOF'er. I hate to be of the suspicious kind but he's one of those guys that people automatically think of during the steroid era in the majors. Along with the likes of Bret Boone, Brady Anderson and the other big named players. He had that one miracoulous (sp?) season where he hit 50+ HRs and will always be remembered for lightly hitting the World Series clincher off Rivera.
