| Brandon Webb scoreless streak Diamondbacks pitcher Brandon Webb is on an incredible tear as of late. According to the Associated Press, "The reigning NL Cy Young award winner pitched his second shutout in a row to extend his scoreless inning streak to a club-record 33 Saturday night and lead the Diamondbacks to their 17th victory in 20 games, 1-0 over the Washington Nationals... Webb's five-hitter followed a three-hit, 3-0 complete-game victory at Los Angeles last Sunday." So how long can he keep this scoreless streak going?

| Re: Brandon Webb scoreless streak The streak is over. Webb gave up a run in the first inning yesterday, halting the scoreless run at 42 innings. Ultimately, he surrendered two runs and five hits in seven innings, striking out five in a 3-2 Arizona win over the Brewers. | Re: Brandon Webb scoreless streak The more important streak, his winning streak is now at 6 games. Does he still have a shot at claiming the Cy Young award for the 2nd consecutive year? 14-8 record and a 2.63 ERA, leads NL in ERA, innings pitched, complete games, shutouts, and is 2nd in Ks.

"I finished up pretty strong last year, and I feel pretty strong right now," he recently told the Associated Press. "I'd say it's pretty comparable... The scoreless innings obviously brought my ERA down a ton (from 3.38 to 2.63). But the wins that come with it have also helped out a lot in that regard, I would think." | Re: Brandon Webb scoreless streak Now Webb's winning streak is over as well, courtesy of the San Diego Padres. According to the Associated Press, "Webb (14-9) allowed a season-high six earned runs in 5 1-3 innings and had his six-game winning streak snapped. It was his shortest outing since June 22, when he lasted five innings in a 7-1 loss to Baltimore." Proof positive that even the best hurlers have off days.
