Anyone else think the D-Backs signing Johnson was a really stupid move?

They traded for him and then signed him to an extension. Stupid? We'll know I guess a year from now.

But they needed a draw and Johnson will boost attendance when he pitches. In Arizona's perspective, they didn't give up much besides a reliever and prospects. Their system is still one of the strongest in the league.

Then again, Johnson could be out until May and then pitch for a 6-12 record with a 5.00+ ERA so who knows.

Just having him back will help sell season tickets. That alone is enough incentive for Arizona to acquire him. Part of me has a gut feeling, though, that he'll revert to form now that he's out of the Big Apple and away from the New York media. I predict he'll be good for a 15-18 win season this year.

I do. He's toast. He has nothing left on his fastball. Lefties were hitting homers off of him with no problem the last 2 years, something they never used to be able to do.

They gave up too much to get him. Some used balls and practice bats would have been too much. His record will not be anywhere near what it was in NY. He won't have that offense to bail him out.
