As strange as it seems from an all Philly fan, I'm a Cowboys fan!

But I keep it quiet!

I usually end up going for the underdog, and that was certainly the Cards in this game!

There are Cowboys fans all over the place these days! I really didn't know that though. Are you big into football? Because I don't remember you talking about the Cowboys like the others before.

Re: Super Bowl:Cardinals-Steelers!

I honestly think football is over rated.

It's been polluted by gambling, and that is a big reason for the big TV ratings.

Now, I don't think it's fixed, but I think a lot of why the rating are so high is the gambling factor.

I am much more of a racing, baseball, and hockey fan.

I do like football, but I just don't see it as the end all/be all that so many think it is.

To me, the things that some love about it are the things I hate.

One mistake and your done. And due to being a one and done format, often the best team truly does not advance, or end up as the champ.

Some love the randomness of that, but it is a detriment in my book.

I"m also not a big fan of all the celebration that goes on. I just find it child and almost embarrassing.

A player on a team down 41-7 has a big dance because they make a big play.

Re: Super Bowl:Cardinals-Steelers!

Football is probably my favorite sport to watch. I don't know if I would call it "randomness" but I like the do or die part of the NFL play-offs.

Re: Super Bowl:Cardinals-Steelers!

And that is fine. Different folks have different likes.

I just like to see the best team win, and I think that with the one and done format, that doesn't always happen.

Is there anyone that really thinks the Cards were the best team in the NFC this year?

I sure don't, and yet, here they were.

It's a lot harder to make it all the way in a best of 7, or even best of 5.

Now I know you can't do that in football, it just wouldn't work.

But it is a thing that is a detriment, to me.

I hate to say it, but I think the best team won the Super Bowl this year.

But again, do you think they played the best NFC team?

I just don't think so.

It is the best system we have, but it doesn't always work.

Combine the system with how bad the officials were this year, and you start to see the "randomness" I speak of.

Re: Super Bowl:Cardinals-Steelers!

Actually, the Cardinals were the better team tonight except for the one play at the end of the 1st half. That was a 10-14 point swing...a huge play in a close game. Cards had 100 yards more offense than the Steelers had. Penalties were big in this game too, Steelers came out well ahead in that department. It was a painful loss, we had this one and let it slip away.

I disagree with that, I see the logic there, but at no point in that game, expect after the holding penalty on the first play of Pittsburgh's game winning drive did I think Arizona would win. So I don't think the Cards were better.

I find that an interesting comment Phils, although I find myself in disagreement with it. How else would you determine those who enter the playoffs ? Games wise football has a very short season. They only play 17 games. How would you justify anything different than they already have ? To me, making it (the playoffs) longer would be something similar to the mess NASCAR created.

It's the only way to do it, but that still doesn't mean you always get the best team out of this system.

The system is what it is, but it doesn't work.

Look at the Cards, I mean really look at em.

9-7???

I think it you played any of those playoff games again, they would probably go down.

They played over their heads for the playoffs. Even in the Super Bowl.

Look at some of the Super Bowl winners of the last few years.

Other than the Pats and Steelers, no repeats since Dallas won it in the 92-93 years. And that is how the NFL wants it.

That is why the saying "on any given Sunday" is so true.

That saying that folks like to quote to much is acknowledgement that football fans know in the hearts and minds that the best team truly doesn't always win.

Just my 2 cents, I don't ask anyone else to see it as I do, but I strongly feel it will never be my favorite sport for just that reason.

He said earlier that there is no other way to do it and he understands that. He just doesn't like it, so he isn't as into it.

Anyone that doesn't think the Cardinals deserved to be in the Super Bowl just wasn't paying attention. Fact is, they were the better team on the field in the Super Bowl as well, they just couldn't overcome so many costly penalties.
