Leinhart and Cardinals not talking

Leinart, Cards aren't talking - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

Here we thought it was gonig to be Reggie Bush holding out, and its problem child Matt Leinhart. First he goes after Paris Hilton, and now he and the Cardinals are in a deadlock...

Here's the scope from the article:

The Cardinals have offered Leinart, the 2004 Heisman Trophy winner who led USC to a 37-2 record over the past three seasons, a six-year contract that includes $9 million in firm guarantees and a little more than $2 million in additional guarantees if Leinart is injured. By comparison, Williams received a five-year contract that had more than $10 million fully guaranteed.

Re: Leinhart and Cardinals not talking

i heard on around the horn i forget what personality it was, but the short story is, that i guess matt wants a 3 or so year deal so he can the money he belives he deserves after that. But i dont know how the salary cap works with rookies, if there is set amount of year as the minium and max you can sign for. Love football just dont know all the ins and outs of the sport. Can anyone help me out here?

Saw this morining where former USC QB Carson Palmer earned over $30 million a year. I think matt wants to live in the same neighborhood.

Re: Leinhart and Cardinals not talking

Well, if Leinart does sign for a shorter-term deal there's a shot that could happen. Arizona's definitely an improving team and he will certainly be the starting QB there in the near future. If they get some o-line and some D, they could definitely experience a Bengals-type resurgence and enjoy a playoff run within the next 3 or so seasons.

As for your question, mervinout, I know there are rookie contract limitations and I believe there is a rookie cap, but like you I can't recite any of this stuff chapter and verse off the top of my head.

Re: Leinhart and Cardinals not talking

cause im sure the cards want a 5 or 6 year deal so they dont have to re-up every 3 years lol, but they say he is getting this idea from lebron and wade, i dont see him as the same caliber in the nfl but its the eye of the beholder right lol

Until he falter this Southern Cal boy does have Rock Star status...and he needs to leverage it as much as he can...

He really should hae stepped out in 2005...he was at peak value then.

Re: Leinhart and Cardinals not talking

ya but how much more respect did he gain from the country for returning. year in and year out we argue that these kids should be getting their education then their millions. This kid did it when your right he was at the peak value. But i have more respect for him then i would have if he left last year.
