Our Cardinals sources are having a hard time figuring out just what kind of role RB J.J. Arrington is going to play this season, with newcomer Edgerrin James making it pretty clear that he expects to be on the field most of the time. Suffice it to say the honeymoon is definitely over for Arrington, who will have to make the absolute most of what could be very limited playing time.

I was high on this kid last year...but he was not impressive...still I just don't see him as a shield carrier for the warrior that is Edge James...

Arrington was high on my list, too, but he actually got fewer carries on the season than Marcel Shipp. That said, his rushing average was better than Shipp's (3.3 ypc to 2.9 ypc) and he scored Arizona's only two rushing touchdowns of the season. I think they'll manage to find some role for him in the offense, though its clear he's not going to be the franchise back I thought he was.

I loved Arrington coming out of college. I watched him a lot at Cal and I thought he was a great pick up for the Cardinals in the second round. It really didn't work out last year and that is a shame because I really think that Arrington could thrive in a better situation. In all fairness to him, the offensive line for the Cardinals was pretty bad last year. Watching them play it just looked like the defense knew what the Arizona running backs were doing on every single play. As a result, it does not look like he is going to get much more of a shot in Arizona unless Edge gets hurt.

Look for Arrington to be the #3 tailback at best, behind Edge and Marcel Shipp.
