Warner or Leinart?

The Cardinals have Kurt Warner and now Matt Leinart, who should they start? You gotta feel somewhat bad for Kurt who (knowingly) went to NY with Eli Manning right behind him. Now it looks like the same may occur in 'Zona.

If you're Denny Green, do you sit Leinart in the beginning and ease him into the starters role? Or start him from the beginning?

Re: Warner or Leinart?

If they're smart, they'll start Warner and ease Leinart into it, especially if they don't drastically improve the o-line. You've got to keep your QB of the future healthy until the rest of the pieces are together, which may be as soon as 2007.

Re: Warner or Leinart?

Definitely start Kurt Warner and slowly work Leinart into the mix. He still has to learn the Cards playbook and also needs to learn the tendencies of his recievers.

I was gonna say Leinhart but Lefty's right. If the O-Line is gonna turn him into David Carr he isnt going to learn anything so dont start him until hes got protection. Throw Warner in there...hes nothing but a tackling dummy now anyway so let him do his job.

Cool Re: Warner or Leinart?

Dennis Greene has already said that Leinart is sitting the entire first year. They just paid Kurt Warner a lot of money also. I bet you if they knew that Leinart was going to be available for them to take that late, they never would have given Warner that kind of money.

Re: Warner or Leinart?

In the 2004 NFL Season, Kurt Warner was the starting quarterback for the New York Giants. But midway through the season they handed the ball to Eli Manning to lead the way.

I think the Arizona Cardinals will use the same procedure with (again) Warner and Leinart. Perhaps Warner could become Leinart's mentor?

The only problem is Marc that I was a witness to that 2004 mess Coughlin made by handing the job to Eli when the G-men were freefalling. I did nothing for Eli's career but make it harder for him in 2005, in short it was a disaster. Make your decision be it Warner or Leinhart but if its gonna be Leinhart he needs a full training camp and even that isnt gonna prepare him from the transition from college to NFL defenses. I say start Warner. But start and then finish whoever it be.

Re: Warner or Leinart?

The article in the previous post is from CardinalInsider.com, and the author says, "If Warner does manage to finish the season and the Cardinals do manage to make it to the playoffs, we will not have a situation like the one in San Diego. The primary reason for this is that Warner’s much too old to be a viable option for the future. A playoff season this year is significantly more important to the organization than getting Leinart reps this year... Leinart will start. He will be the quarterback of this franchise. The only question is when. The only answer is: as soon as Warner self-destructs."

Re: Warner or Leinart?

Ok well that last post said it all. If the Cards want the best chance at the postseason start Warner. If they want their QB of the future to begin his education so hell be good sooner than start Leinhart. One thing though is that you cant have it both ways....Cards miss the playoffs with Leinhart starting.

Cool Re: Warner or Leinart?

Their plan was to have Warner play and Leinhardt sit the whole year. But Leinhardt will play if Warner gets hurt. I don't think that's changed since the day they drafted Leinhardt

Well, that could be 2 games into the season...I think, they will monitor the kid independent of Warner as to not put him into a pressure situation he is not ready for. I do agree is not like San Diego at all.
