Because he's not that good. They need to upgrade the position, not resign the bums they've already got.

Re: Cardinals allow big tackle to become free agent

I think this is a mistake on the Cardinals behalf. Not a huge one per se, but a mistake nonetheless. Rome was not built in a day, and the Cardinals offensive line won't be either. I understand that he is a marginal blindside tackle, but he didn't perform in that capacity this season and played left tackle. He wasn't All-Pro, and its debatable if he was even good, but I would still have tried to move him inside. He has the potential to be a good road-grader at guard, and at the very least serviceable, certainly an upgrade over Milford Brown. Don't go crazy with his contract, but give him a short, incentive-laden deal to see how he performs inside. Even if he doesn't pan out, you had yourself an above average stopgap. If he does pan out, you knocked out two needs with one stone.

He never really played up to his potential. Some say he played lazy and unmotivated. I wouldn't blame them for letting him go and possibly targeting Joe Thomas in the draft or a better veteran in free agency.

Exactly. The Cards offensive line needs to improve. They DON'T need to be resigning the same old bums they've already got to new, big money contracts. Yes, it takes time to build a solid o-line. But Davis has always underachieved. Getting an able, physically talented group of five is the priority right now; worry about getting them to gel later.

Re: Cardinals allow big tackle to become free agent

With offensivelineman Marco Rivera undergoing his second back surgery in three years, Leonard Davis would be a good replacement at right guard.I agree with Notorious a move inside at guard would be ideal for Davis....luv to see him on the Cowboy line blocking for Romo.Word is so would other team's in the nfc east. He's only 28 year's old.Davis is too slow to play on the edge against speed rusher's.Move that beast to the interior line and he should do fine.

Where will they find Davis' replacement? Draft or market?
