Cardinals resign Warner

Today, the Arizona Cardinals signed QB Kurt Warner to a three-year contract extention, and announced that he would open training camp as the starter. This is a big mistake in my opinion.

Sure, he led the league with five 300-yard passing games and had the best QB rating for a Cardinal QB since Neil Lomax in 1988. But he's 34-years-old, stone-footed and injury-prone.

Josh McCown played 9 games and threw for 9 touchdowns, over 1,800 yards and had a passer rating of 74.9. I've got to figure if given the chance, he would do a fantastic job leading this team. He is, or at least should be, the future of this team at QB.

And when you're coming off a 5-11 season, the future is now.

I agree

The Arizona Cardinals are making a huge mistake by resigning Kurt Warner. He hasn't showed anything since he was last healthy for the Rams. This offense led by the superstar tandem of Fitzgerald and Bolden, deserves a better Quarterback. I know Josh Mccown isn't the answer either so it may be tough to find a capable Quarterback this year, however resigning Warner wasn't the right choice. Some options for the Cardinals, who are also in desperate need of a capable Running Back, would be to draft Lendale White or Deangelo Williams, and try to sign a veteran Quarterback. Their other option would be to find a passer in this year's draft. Although their chances of moving up and getting Leinart or Young are next to nothing, they have a realistic shot at obtaining Jay Cutler from vanderbilt. No matter what they do, they have to act fast before they waste another year with a bad passer and two excellent Receivers.

Cool I couldn't believe it

When I saw that Warner was given 18 million for 3 years, I did a double take. Are the Cardinals out of their mind? That's something Isiah Thomas would do.

Josh McCown

I disagree, guys. I think if you give McCown the job and the lion's share of the reps in practice, he could get the job done. He might never be a great QB, but I think he'd be competent enough to make them a playoff team. That's something I really can't say about Warner these day.

Does everybody else feel that Warner is pretty much done for good as well? I am not so sure he has anything left in the tank?
