Re: Fire Dennis Green!

I agree with Kenman. I doubt very seriously Carroll as any desire whatsoever to return to the NFL.

Re: Fire Dennis Green!

He has neothing left to prove in the college ranks. He made the Trojans a powerhouse again. I think if he does go to the NFL it will be on a team he wants and his conditions. Why would he want to go to a team like the Cardinals? He would want to go to a team that has a chance of winning. I don't think they should give him total control. That never works out. There is too much to do just being the coach

Re: Fire Dennis Green!

I can see him going back to the NFL. He has unfinished business. In the back of every successful college coach is the lingering thought that they might could be successful on the pro level.

Re: Fire Dennis Green!

If USC goes on probation, then maybe. If I were him, I would stay as far away from the Cardinals as possible. They have a way of sucking the football out of anyone they touch.

Cardinals' Green won't discuss future
Houston Chronicle, TX - 10 hours ago
TEMPE, Ariz. — Dennis Green is in what could well be his final week as coach of the Arizona Cardinals, and he was having nothing to do with talk about his job status Tuesday. Asked if he still had a burning desire to coach the Cardinals next season, he said only, "I'm not going to get into any of that stuff."

With a game at San Diego remaining Sunday, Green is 16-31 since taking over at Arizona amid high expectations in 2004. The Cardinals (5-10) have played much better lately. Their 26-20 victory at San Francisco on Sunday gave them four wins in their last six, and they finished 4-2 against NFC West opponents.

But an earlier eight-game losing streak may have sealed Green's fate in what was supposed to be a breakout season in Arizona's new stadium. The coach said he had no regrets.

"I never regret anything," he said. "It's just not part of my makeup. It really isn't. I know I'm a very blessed man. I've been in the game a long time and had a lot of success in the game, so I don't have to operate with regrets. All I know is that every day I've done the best I could do."

Green has one year left on his four-year, $10 million contract. The Bidwill family may be willing to eat that $2.5 million rather than risk eroding what finally is a sizable season ticket base. Every home game was sold out.

Firing a coach would be nothing new for the franchise. The Cardinals have had seven head coaches since moving to Arizona in 1988.

4-2 in their last six games... any change Dennis Green has saved his job?

Re: Cardinals' Green won't discuss future

I'd think Pete Carroll would be open to a return to the NFL. Like was said before in this thread, he probably has something to prove to himself. His stay the last decade was awful. After such heights at Southern Cal, there really is no where else to go but down. Especially if they find themselves in serious trouble with the NCAA.

Cool Re: Fire Dennis Green!

As a Jets fan, and having watched Pete Carroll coach up close, I wouldn't want him anywhere near my team.

College and Pros are 2 different animals - look at all the coaches that have failed miserably after jumping from college to the pros.

Steve Spurrier, Dennis Erickson, Lou Holtz, Butch Davis, Mike Riley....

Very few have been successful...Jimmy Johnson (Switzer but he was walking into a going concern)..
