Leinhart fighting to keep backup job

A year ago in training camp Matt Leinhart was in a battle with Kurt Warner for the starting quarterback position.
This year he's fighting for the No. 2 position.
Coach Ken Whisenhun has told Brian St. Pierre he has a chance at the job.
St. Pierre was an undrafted rookie out of Boston College in 2003, and has a long relationship with Whisenhunt going back to their days at the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Leinhart has a 3 year old son and said that has made him grow up.

Is this just to push Leinhart some more or do you think St. Pierre has a chance to back up Warner?

Yeah...you ain't gonna make Leinhart a #3 at this point...not over a stiff like St. Pierre...the Cards would trade him first.

Re: Leinhart fighting to keep backup job

I definitely think Leinhart has a shot at winding up at #3. Look, the Cards haven't given up on the kid, but he definitely needs an attitude adjustment. Maybe if he loses his spot it'll, I dunno, maybe actually inspire him to work instead of party all the time? Just a thought.

Inspire a brat like Matt Leinart???...Lefty come on...kid gloves are called for here, not tough love...Matty needs some hand holding and some reassurance that he is one step away from being the man!...

Look at Culter in Denver and Young in Tennessee...they got looked at the wrong way and they started crying a river to the media...this is the Class of 2006 we are talking about...the words "fragile egos" comes to mind...no???

I know you're kidding around, but in all seriousness... if we're worried about the feelings of a guy who doesn't take his job seriously, and is thus in danger of losing said job, then I might as well just stop watching professional football right now. The man needs to grow up and if this tough love tactic doesn't work, then nothing will ever make him a quality NFL QB.

The problem with tough love is:

1) you took the kid with a 1st round pick you have to justify
2) Warner is what now? 37 or 38?
3) You don't have a plan B in place yet
4) You may not have even checked the NFL for interest in the kid if the plan goes South.
5) You really do not have a talented player competing for the 2nd spot with him...different story if you sign Vick to compete for the spot etc...

I think its a dumb move...you should know the outcome of the negotiation you are about to go into...look at Denver...they made Cutler cry over something stupid and had to jettison the Franchise QB they were developing...bet they did not see that coming.

All of those posts follow the same idea. Warner won't be playing forever. They need a new QB and a guy like Leinart could be the franchise guy they need, if they do the right things.

Re: Leinhart fighting to keep backup job

Hey, if the Cardinals don't want Leinhardt, I am sure the Broncos could use him. Trade: Orton and always injured Simms for Leinhardt straight up. He is better than anything we have on this team currently.

They thought they had it in Leinhart and it turns out they were wrong.
I'm sure they'll address the issue in the draft next year. Warner should have 2-3 more years.

They made him cry because they showed interest in another quarterback.Cassel I think it was. I'd cry too if I was Cutler.

No, I believe you will see a big decline in Warner's production this year already.
