Simon speaks out about Pronger stomp

Simon wants to know why the NHL penalized him but didn't punish Chris Pronger, after Pronger stomped on Canuck Ryan kesler's leg.
Pronger is no stranger to suspensions - he has been suspended seven times in 14 seasons, including twice in the playoffs last year while leading the Ducks to the Stanley Cup title.
Up until yesterday, pronger had gone unpunished - but the NHL has stated they didn't get a good angle on the stomp - but they have a new video shot with a new angle now - they are reviewing it and will have a phone meeting with pronger today.
I'm with Simon on this, if you can imagine - he's right. there are often two sets of rules in the NHL - one for bullies and one for the great players. pronger is great but too often, stupid.

I hadn't even heard abou this!! If it was a dirty play, he should be treated like anyone else.

Have you seen the "new" video?

Oh yeah, suspend him. The only question is for how long.

I say dont suspend him. Hes our team captain, he keeps the team togethor. Maybe pay a fine, but dont suspend him when the playoffs are so close. Blow our chances.

Art often imitates life...there are two sets of rules for most things unfortunately...still...At least Pronger was while the game was going on...and he was tangled up...Simon was on the way to the bench...a bit more pre-meditated perhaps...so the suspensions will not be equal...at least I do not think.

True, Pronger was agitated by the tangle, thought he was doing it on purpose.

Maybe a team Captain should have given some thought to the team before he committed the act. Given some thought to what that "C" means to his team, and to it's chances.

Suspend him or don't suspend him, it means nothing to me. But the NHL shouldn't make that choice based on standing or the playoffs coming.

They should only act based on the occurrence.

Well his wasnt as serious as the simons incident. So if he does get suspended it should be for a much shorter period

Re: Simon speaks out about Pronger stomp

I say, if you stomp someone, you should be penalized. Now whether they will weigh it against the Simon one and say one was worse than the other, who knows? - truthfully, pronger needs to get his anger under control - it's a problem, captain or not.
doesn't matter in my mind whether it is done during the game or as he's skating off - it was about a loss of control.

Re: Simon speaks out about Pronger stomp

Pronger got 8 games. They just announced it between the 2nd and 3rd periods of this afternoons game.

Eight games is fair. Gets him back before the playoffs, and lets the players know it can happen to anyone.

Won't make you happy Seahawker, but I do think it's fair.

I think if you are tangled up and react, there is little thinking that takes place...not to excuse it...but is there really time for a long thought on the C on your jersey in the heat of the moment?

Yes. He has been a Captain for a loooooooooooooong time, and should have the discipline not to react that way.

Folks raked my Flyers over open coals for what they did this year, and they deserved it.

So does Pronger in this case.

In my opinion!

Re: Simon speaks out about Pronger stomp

8 games works for me.
GDK - are you just being the devil's advocate in this case? Promoting discussion (since we are discussing it)? because Pronger reacts - he pulls his leg out - and then he stomps. He had a choice to make - he made the wrong one.
