| Cody Crisis TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama defensive tackle Terrence Cody sustained a right knee injury in the third quarter of Saturday's game against Mississippi. Low: Bama plugs along The relief outside the Alabama locker room was spliced with frustration following Saturday's win over Ole Miss. If the initial diagnosis is correct, nose tackle Terrence Cody won't be lost for the season, writes Chris Low. Blog Coach Nick Saban said the second-ranked Crimson Tide's run-stopper would have his knee examined but that it didn't appear surgery would be necessary. "I would assume that he'll be out for a couple of weeks, but we're not sure about that until they do the MRI," Saban said. Cody was helped off the field after an Ole Miss player appeared to be blocked into the back of his legs on a running play. A number of trainers tended to him on the sidelines, and then he was taken off the field on a cart waving to cheering Tide fans. The junior college transfer has been a key run-stopper for the nation's No. 2 rush defense all season. Earlier in the game, he played on offense for the first time and served as lead blocker on Mark Ingram's 2-yard touchdown run. Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press |

| Re: Cody Crisis My 2 cents... Alabama could ill afford an injury much less to this player he has been a big reason why Alabama has been successful this year. I knew Cody was going to be an impact player from the moment I saw his practice tape. Josh Chapman and Lorenzo Washington have some huge shoes to fill. The real question is how long will he be out? Stay tuned for updates as they become available... |

| Re: Cody Crisis Despite all the close losses, Nutt remains upbeat October 18, 2008 10:49 PM Posted by ESPN.com's Chris Low Marvin Gentry/US Presswire Mississippi coach Houston Nutt feels that his team is close to breaking through.TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt doesn't need to do the math.Really, he doesn't want to. His Rebels (3-4, 1-3 SEC) have lost four football games this season, and all four have been decided by a touchdown or less. All four were decided in the final minutes, and the Rebels hurt themselves in all four with mistakes. As nauseating as the close losses have been, Nutt has no doubt that his Ole Miss team is moving in the right direction. "I think they are going to be a great team. I think they are really starting to see it, and all they need is a little dose and that dose is that win," said Nutt, whose club battled back from a 24-3 deficit, only to come up short Saturday in a 24-20 loss to No. 2-ranked Alabama. "The reason we're able to play in this environment is you reach back to a game like Florida. A lot of teams can't stay on the field with Alabama, a lot of teams. Georgia had a tough time the first half. This team is a solid team. I think we can build from it as long as we keep hanging on the rope and keep fighting. There's still a lot to play for." Now Alabama's defense has to prove it can win without him, at least for the next couple of weeks. Terrence Cody's knee injury will no doubt test Alabama's mettle and depth defensively, but his teammates say they will lean on each other more than ever before. "That 360 pounds ... it might not be the same with him not being in there, but we've got to go on and keep playing well," Alabama defensive end Brandon Deaderick said. "We've been more active and more physical on the D-line all year, and that's not going to change. I think we help each other out a lot. We feed off each other and work well to make plays." The hope is that Cody will only miss a couple of weeks after injuring his right knee in the 24-20 win Saturday over Ole Miss. His absence will mean more snaps for sophomore Josh Chapman, who'd been rotating most of this season with Cody at nose tackle. They had been able to keep each other fresh this season. Sophomore nose tackle Nick Gentry, undersized at 254 pounds, may also see his snaps increase, and there's a chance Lorenzo Washington might move back inside. Washington played nose tackle before moving to end in the Tide's 3-4 scheme. "It's a big role," Chapman said. "People change their whole offense because of Big Cody. I'll try to keep that thing going on." The reality is that Alabama doesn't have anybody who can replace Cody. It's doubtful anybody in the country does. He's a one-man defensive line that takes away just about everything an opposing offense wants to do up the middle. It was obvious after he left the game Saturday in the third quarter that Ole Miss was able to have more success up the middle. "This defense isn't just about one or two guys," said Deaderick, who had a key sack on Ole Miss' final possession. "Everybody has been playing lights out. Regardless of who makes the play, somebody's got to do something right for that person to make the play. As long as everybody's playing sound, it's going to work out all right for us." |

| Re: Cody Crisis Alabama plugs along without Mount Cody October 18, 2008 9:28 PM Posted by ESPN.com's Chris Low TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The relief outside the Alabama locker room was spliced with frustration following Saturday's 24-20 win over Ole Miss. Greg McWilliams/US Presswire. Terrence Cody, the Crimson Tide's 365-pound nose tackle, suffered a right knee injury against Ole Miss Saturday.< If the initial diagnosis is correct, nose tackle Terrence Cody won't be lost for the season after going down with a right knee injury in the third quarter. Alabama coach Nick Saban said more will be known after an MRI, but that it didn't appear Cody would need surgery and that he'd only be out for a couple of weeks."I know it touched us, the defense and the team as a whole," said Josh Chapman, who's rotated with Cody at nose tackle all season. "But we know we have to step up and make plays without him. It's still a big hole with him gone." The air all but went out of Bryant-Denny Stadium as the 365-pound Cody lay on the turf in the third quarter. He'd given the crowd of 92,138 a treat a quarter earlier when he lined up as a blocking path and cleared a path into the end zone for Mark Ingram's 2-yard touchdown run. But his injury changed things, in more ways than one. And Alabama was fortunate to hang on, once again limping to the finish after a fast start. It's the third straight game that Alabama has fizzled in the second half. "We've got to be better than that," Alabama senior center Antoine Caldwell said. "We've got to go out there and finish the ballgame off. We kind of let it slide a little bit." Emotionally, the Crimson Tide (7-0, 4-0 SEC) seemed to be missing something after Cody left the game. There was also a drop-off on the field. The Rebels, after being held to 104 yards in the first half, racked up 255 yards in the second half and had their chances in the fourth quarter. Alabama, though, came up with the defensive stop it needed in the final minutes. Defensive end Brandon Deaderick sacked Ole Miss quarterback Jevan Snead on first down after the Rebels had moved into Alabama territory, and three plays later, Snead was again pressured and threw incomplete on fourth down. "It hurt (losing Cody), but you can't think about that stuff," Deaderick said. "You've got to keep plugging. They were driving the ball on us, and we ended up stopping them. It just goes to show you that it doesn't matter who's in or who's out or who's hurt or who's healthy. We're going to keep playing. We're going to keep playing hard. I hope he gets back soon. I just want him to be 100 percent when he comes back." Saban said Cody's injury was similar to the one suffered by offensive tackle Andre Smith earlier this season. Smith sprained his knee and missed the Tulane game. Depending on what the MRI shows, the most likely date for Cody to return is the LSU game on Nov. 8. Chapman said he got a good vibe from Cody after the game. "I said, "Are you all right, Big Dog?' " Chapman said. "When he gives me that grin, that means he'll be all right." |

| Re: Cody Crisis I have watched your 'team' stink it up for a decade....and he is being 'hidden' with a simplified offense to overcome his deficencies, and that lame little pretty boy will have to have the game placed in his hands by teams that are able to take away your run later in the game when your lard buckets wear down....and THEN is when the real Sarah Jessica will show up....but the girls do think he is such a pretty boi....perhaps he can model after his career ends...ugly as that will be.... | Re: Cody Crisis Naw!...just like a man to be a man...and with his 'do' and his reptuation, I can sense he is such a pretty boy....just callin a spade a spade...and that boi is a spade... he is the master of throwing it up, and Saban can't hide him when the real teams show up ..... The Gators would flush him early and regular and then 'sweet Sarah' will show up....count on it.... |

| Re: Cody Crisis You better win some games... otherwise you will be home with the rest of the guys watching the SEC Championship Game as Alabama pummels thier opponent in route to the BCS Championship in Miami. |

| Re: Cody Crisis Bud we have been 'showing up' for the last decade....question is where were your bunch?..... we'll take care of our end of the bargain, question is...will you? We are not living on the polls.....you are.... |

| Re: Cody Crisis The only thing I see is a loss to Mississippi staring you in the eye. Perhaps it is Florida that got exposed for being frauds. You haven't played but one ranked team and LSU isn't that good to prove it watch Georgia beat them this weekend. Alabama will be there in the end... then we get to kick some teeth in smashmouth style. There are very few fans who can recogonize what is happening in college football today. What was old is new again. The SEC is about to find out what a true champion looks like one without a blemish. |

| Re: Cody Crisis Smashmouth ....hell Kentucky pushead that lard all over the lot... and you can talk it all you want....this will be your high water mark for the year...from now till the end it will only be worse and worse...and then you can take out the pictures from the past, and reread the Bear Bryant bio, and watch the real teams play for the titles....just like you have been doing for about 12 or 13 straight years now.... | Re: Cody Crisis LSU is better than you are by a mile...you are the one doing all the talking and you are living on borrowed time....about this time tommorrow night I will be laughing my a** off watching the Vols expose your wannabe team...and then you have to go down to play the Tigers on their pasture...and that will be ANOTHER humbling for ALL to witness...then this board will be all Saban sucks and the such..... you all would hire the devil himself to regain the right to talk smack.... you can't and you won't, and the devil would turn down the job...even hell is better than coaching for Alabama....
