Two incoming University of Alabama freshman football players, part of the nation's No. 1 -ranked recruiting class, are both making appeals to the NCAA Clearinghouse to gain academic eligibility at Alabama for the 2008 season, an official at East Mississippi Community College in Scooba, Miss., said today.


Wide receiver/athlete Devonta Bolton of Waycross, Ga., and defensive end Brandon Lewis of Pleasant Grove are both four-star recruits, according to Rivals.com recruiting service.
"Right now, both Brandon and Devonta are University of Alabama football players,'' said Buddy Stephens, East Mississippi's football coach. "Until they're students here I don't think it's right for me to discuss them.''
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Bolton was rated the 18th-best athlete by Rivals.com while Lewis, a 6-3, 260-pounder, was ranked the No. 18 defensive end.
