The murky status of Alabama's 2008 football signing class cleared a bit today with word from St. Paul's running back Ivan Matchett that he has been cleared to enroll at UA next week for the start of second summer semester.
Matchett was delayed by a high school history class he had to retake in summer school. Reached by phone today, Matchett said he scored an 'A,' which was what he needed to qualify for this season.
"All I needed was my 'A' and I got that," Matchett said. "I'm good. ... I'm ready to go now."
Matchett's inclusion, while expected, answers one question about the numbers crunch for incoming Crimson Tide freshman. Others still remain. Of Alabama's 32 signees this year, there is only room on scholarship for 27 (two enrolled in January and counted toward the previous year).
