Position analysis: Wide receivers

Alabama’s wideout corps took a major hit due to graduation, with the loss of all-time leading receiver DJ Hall and four-year contributors Keith Brown and Matt Caddell. However the presence of several young players, including two dynamite true freshmen, make this one of the more intriguing position groups on the team.
Projected starters
Mike McCoy (6-3, 199, junior)
Nikita Stover (6-0, 207, senior)
Julio Jones (6-4, 210, true freshman)

Even with the change in offensive coordinators, Alabama seems committed to fielding three receivers at nearly all times. McCoy looks like a lock at one spot, if for no other reason than his willingness to go over the middle and his ability as a run-blocker.

Stover is the best returning big-play threat, but has had trouble staying on the field. A chronic hamstring problem continued to plague him in the spring, but the Crimson Tide will need his field-stretching ability until the younger players have a chance to adjust to the college game.

Throughout his college career, Alabama coach Nick Saban has shown a commitment to playing capable true freshmen from Day 1. Jones is as college-ready as any Crimson Tide freshman ever, and it’s only a matter of time before he becomes the best of this group, if he’s not already.
