| Alabama looks to speed it up in 2008 Nick Saban’s first season with the Crimson Tide may not have gone according to plan, but with the number one recruiting class this season, things are looking brighter. Alabama head coach Nick Saban is ready to revive the Crimson Tide after a poor 7-6 season. Coming into 2007 with high expectations, Saban’s team failed to produce, losing four of its last five games. But Alabama fans shouldn’t start worrying yet. Saban enters 2008 with new hopes, led by the top recruiting class in the country. Led by five-star athlete Julio Jones, the 2008 Alabama recruiting class was ranked No. 1 by numerous recruiting sites. Jones, a 6-foot-5, 215-pound wide receiver is a playmaker. If you add players such as Tyler Love, Burton Scott to a base of talent, Saban shouldn’t be worrying too much about the depth of his team. In fact, after reeling in 32 recruits, he should be feeling pretty pleased with himself. Taking a look at the 2008 recruiting class list, there’s one thing that stands out: Speed. The team got five athletes who can play numerous positions, each with 40 times of 4.5 or lower. Alabama recruited for a swift class. With this new speed infused into the team, Alabama should be able to catch up with rivals such as Louisiana State, Georgia and Auburn - all of whom beat Alabama in 2007. With a very sturdy and deep class, fans of the Tide shouldn’t worry for this fall. On Aug. 30, Alabama plays their first game, and face their first big test of the 2008 season playing at Clemson. But if a win at Clemson occurs, LSU should watch out. The Southeastern Conference West division will be bigger and better then ever. Full Story
