He'll continue to be monitored by our staff and our thoughts are with him and his family during what we hope is a quick and full recovery." Story

Re: McClain OK after motorcycle accident Do some research... Percentage wise, less of the bikes that are on the road are in accidents, than there are cars. And a ton of those are getting run over by the "cagers". (folks in cars) On a bike you can't talk on a cell phone shave eat put on make up tune a radio, or play with GPS(on most bikes) text message read the paper or a magazine I've had all these things and more happen to me while riding. I;ve even had folks look me right in the eye and come into my lane anyway, just because a bike is smaller and they can just do what they want to you. Also, the training is a lot better for most folks who ride, if they take advantage of the classes that are offered. And in some, if not most, States, that training is mandatory. There are many myths about folks that ride. Not everyone that rides a cruiser is a Hells Angel, dealing drugs or terrorizing small towns. And not every sport bike rider does wheelies down the interstate, and rides 150 MPH on a regular basis. I'd like to know some of the details on the accident, before passing judgement on this young man. I can't count the times I've almost been run over by either inattentive drivers, or folks that just didn't respect me on the road. I'm assuming you don't ride. Most folks who have understand what it's like out there. Common sense dictates that, of course, four wheels and sheet metal around you is surely safer. BUT, the most dangerous thing for two wheelers out there is those folks in these "cages" that crank up the radio, talk on the cell phone, and just don't pay us much mind. Do you know what the most common thing folks in cars say when the run over or kill someone on a bike? "I didn't see you" Pretty lame excuse. I'm willing to bet that most of the ones that didn't see, just didn't look. Or were otherwise distracted by @#$% they had no business doing in a car. Again, we may find out that this guy was doing something crazy out there, but to date, I haven't seen that. I'll be watching with great interest.

Re: McClain OK after motorcycle accident I agree with you that the biggest danger comes from cars. That being said there is nothing like cruising around at 65mph and have a bee or hornet flying at 45mph in the oncoming direction smack you in the face or worse get lodged in your helment [YIKES!]. I don't ride anymore because of that a Bumblebee nearly dehorsed me when it struck me in the throat. Unfortunately for bikers the road is getting more dangerous everyday.

Re: McClain OK after motorcycle accident You've got that right! Hey, my biggest point was just not to assume that he was negligent in the accident. You know from your experience, how easy it is for things to happen. And not just from cars! My biggest fear around here is Deer! I ride to work at 5am, and in my 30 mile ride from farm country to suburbs, I almost always see on on the road somewhere. Hopefully we'll find out that he wasn't out doing anything stupid. I'm very much against keeping athletes from riding, or doing anything else that is legal. They are going to find thrills somewhere. At least riding safely doesn't break any laws.

Re: McClain OK after motorcycle accident RE: DEER They make a small whistle device that attaches to the fender of the bike. When the wind hits it it maks a high pitch whistle that scares the deer away and you don't even notice it. You can find it at just about any auto or motorcycle parts place. Around here we have skunks and plenty of them. Talk about a terrible animal to hit that is why I prefer my truck I can roll up the windows. On a bike I can't.
