| Ex-Tider Ellis dies of cancer TUSCALOOSA -- Former Alabama linebacker Victor Ellis lost his tragic battle with cancer, dying late Tuesday night at the age of 28. Ellis died after checking into Memorial Hospital in his hometown of Chattanooga, Tenn. Loved ones were with Ellis, including best friend and former Tide teammate Ahmaad Galloway, who confirmed the news. Galloway began a fund-raising drive last fall to help Ellis, who was diagnosed with a sudden, rare form of cancer after developing a persistent cough last summer. An Alabama standout from 1998-2001, Ellis played 40 games and totaled 145 tackles while wearing the No. 9 jersey. He was named permanent team captain after the 2001 season. Full Story
