Alabama's Rashad Johnson offered plea deal

TUSCALOOSA - Alabama football captain Rashad Johnson has been offered a plea deal that includes dismissal of his disorderly conduct charge with conditions, his attorney told The Birmingham News.
Johnson, who was arrested on the morning of Feb. 23 for an incident that occurred on the Tuscaloosa strip, is considering the offer, attorney Josh Swords said. In exchange for his acceptance of the Tuscaloosa city attorney's offer, Johnson would likely have to perform some form of community service or perhaps ride along with the police.
One of the issues being considered, Swords said, is that the facts in the police report written by Tuscaloosa Police Department officer Derek Kilgore and the surveillance video taken from four angles at The Legacy do not agree with one another.

A rush to judgment? It sure sounds like it... if the two stories conflict the video(s) doesn't lie.

Re: Alabama's Rashad Johnson offered plea deal

After further review the vidoe evidence from four different angles does not coorerate the testimony of the officer who took the report and made the arrest. This is a serious Faux Paux by the TPD.

Re: Alabama's Rashad Johnson offered plea deal

TUSCALOOSA -- University of Alabama football player Rashad Johnson has agreed to a plea deal with the Tuscaloosa city attorney's office that includes dismissal of his disorderly conduct charge with conditions, his attorney told The Birmingham News today.

One of the conditions for the deal is that Johnson will perform 40 hours of community service. Another condition was for Johnson to release the following statement:

"I regret that my actions contributed to an arrest on Feb. 23, 2008, and want to make it clear that I support the Tuscaloosa Police Department and their attempts to maintain public safety."

Upon completion of the conditions, the disorderly conduct charge from the incident on the Tuscaloosa Strip will be dismissed with is no fine and no court costs for Johnson, an All-Southeastern Conference safety, who made 94 tackles and six interceptions in 2007. Read the full story in Friday's Birmingham News.
