Stoney,

How many players will be cut from the team to make room for this huge incoming class? We have 32 signees and 25 scholorships. some may not be academmic quilifyers but some current players will have to be cut or greyshirted.

Saban said at the end of the season he would be encouraging some players to look elsewere for playing time.

Well well well... remember all the belly aching and crying last season? The loudmouth malcontents just lost thier scholarships and good ridance! Saban made it very clear he would replace those who didn't perform. I hope he cuts those guys and gets the attention of this team now before the first spring practice. Last year Alabama would have and could have had a shot at the BCS if only certain players had bought in and trusted Saban and his staff rather than backbiting in the locker room. Saban has brought in talent that can start. Nobody has any security on this team and that is the way Bear Bryant did it. Saban is making all the right moves.

It will be really interesting to see who makes the squad this season.

Big class. It will be fun to see which ones get early playing time. Any idea how many will likely redshirt?

Saban doesn't even know at this point. Spring drills should be very interesting.

Re: Alabama 2008 Football Signees

I would guess, based on needs, most (20 +) will see the field as freshmen. The talent level (Saban type players) is such that he will not be able to redshirt big numbers for a few years.

I'm sure that almost all defensive freshmen will be in a defensive rotation.

Re: Alabama 2008 Football Signees

I think Star Jackson will be redshirted but Julio Jones will be a starter.

Why would you say that bama is going to need a starter in 2009 so if Star is all that they say he is and that he could step in and run this offense right from the start then why not let him play now bama needs him now. I would like to see him start opening the season but I see him starting by mid-season if like you say he gets redshirted. I will more than likely agree with that if one of the other Six QB's can prove one can lead this team.
