| Tide gymnastics team has to worry about Kentucky before taking on top-ranked Georgia TUSCALOOSA | The University of Alabama gymnastics team has never lost a gymnastics meet against Kentucky, but the Crimson Tide has rarely been at its best against the Wildcats. Third-ranked Alabama will try to keep its unbeaten streak against Kentucky intact tonight at Memorial Coliseum in Lexington, Ky., but Tide head coach Sarah Patterson realizes this meet has traditionally been one of the hardest for her team to perform to its potential. “A lot of times it’s where it falls on the schedule,” said Patterson. This season, the Tide faces unranked Kentucky a week before next Friday’s home showdown with three-time defending national champion Georgia. Alabama hosts its breast cancer-awareness pink meet the following weekend. “Do the ladies look forward to the next two home meets after that?” Patterson said. “I’m sure they do. “What I try to do is keep them moving forward. We’re doing everything we can to propel ourselves forward. We have to take steps. We ha ve to compete well, and the gap has narrowed throughout the country.” While the nation’s elite collegiate gymnastics programs still hold a considerable edge over the competition, Patterson can point to Alabama’s failure to make it to last year’s Super Six team finals at the NCAA Championships as an example of rising parity in the sport, or the start to Kentucky’s season.
