| Pickett on point for Tide tonight TUSCALOOSA -- Rico Pickett was stretching as Alabama coach Mark Gottfried arrived to start Monday's practice, the final one before the start of the Southeastern Conference schedule. Casually, Gottfried asked how things were going. "Great, coach," Pickett replied with conviction. "Great." Fifteen games into the 2007-08 season, Gottfried appears satisfied with his team's big question: Who will replace Ronald Steele at point guard? The answer, for now, is Pickett. The Crimson Tide's true freshman draws his first SEC start at 8 tonight, when Alabama (11-4) hosts two-time defending national champion Florida (13-2) on ESPN. "No warm-ups at all, man," Pickett said, "thrown right into the fire." Gottfried has yet to certify Pickett as his top point guard -- to the media or Tide players -- but he really doesn't need to. Pickett has started Alabama's past nine games to gradually assume control of Steele's spot ahead of backup Mikhail Torrance and Brandon Hollinger. Full Story
