| Several schools showing interest in Applewhite TUSCALOOSA -- The top quarterback among Alabama's 2008 commitments said it "would be big for me" if offensive coordinator Major Applewhite left the Crimson Tide for another school. "Major is a big reason why I'm going to Alabama," said Star Jackson, a touted dual-threat quarterback from Lake Worth, Fla. ESPN.com reported Wednesday that Applewhite was contacted by Houston about its open head coaching position, and the Cougars aren't the only ones interested. Sources close to SMU have said Applewhite is high on the Mustangs' list of potential candidates, and Southern Miss is rumored to also have an interest in the 29-year-old Tide assistant. Full Story
