| Tide coaches get ready for a busy recruiting month Nick Saban’s first season as the head coach at the University of Alabama ended with a 6-6 record. It didn’t end the way many had hoped, but with the outstanding play from many returning underclassmen and the commitment class of 2008 raises the expectations for next season. Scout.com currently ranks Alabama’s 2008 class as seventh nationally in recruiting and second behind Georgia in the SEC. Alabama has 22 commitments with a handful of the Tide’s elite prospects still remaining on the recruiting board. While the Alabama football team sits and waits to learn if a bowl invitation is extended the Tide coaching staff has hit the road recruiting. National Signing Day is a little over two months away, and the coaches are eager to close with their top prospects. Recruiting in-home and school visits started this week with prospects such as Julio Jones, Jerrell Harris and William Green some of the first to welcome Saban and their recruiting area coach. The “Contact Period” allows six in-person off-campus contacts per student-athlete during the time period (no more than one per week) through signing day with exceptions. No contact on Dec. 16 (Quite Period) and Dec. 17-Jan. 1, 2008 (Dead Period). Full Story
