| Tide stands in way of Tigers' title hopes By TONY BARNHART The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 11/02/07 When Nick Saban signed on in January to become the head coach at Alabama, everyone in the SEC knew Saturday's showdown with LSU would be dripping in drama. But no one could have predicted this. The Tide-Tigers winner will have first place in the SEC West all to themselves as well as a clear path to Atlanta for the Dec. 1 conference championship game. LSU (7-1, 4-1 SEC) is ranked No. 3 in the BCS standings and still has designs on winning the national championship. That dream ends if the Tigers lose at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Alabama (6-2, 4-1) paid Saban, the former LSU coach, $4 million per season to win big games like this. Each team has at least three good reasons to believe it will win:
