TUSCALOOSA — Wallace Gilberry sees LSU on the schedule and knows what that means: Buckle up and play for 60 minutes.
Alabama’s senior defensive end gave two answers about what sticks out about playing LSU.
“JaMarcus Russell,” he said, drawing laughter. “And the big offensive line.”
He doesn’t have to worry about the NFL’s No. 1 draft pick on Saturday when LSU visits Bryant-Denny Stadium at 4 p.m.
But that line is as imposing as ever. From left tackle to right tackle, the unit of Ciron Black, Herman Johnson, Brett Helms, Lyle Hitt and Carnell Stewart protects quarterback Matt Flynn and opens holes for Jacob Hester, Trindon Holliday and other LSU running backs.
The Tigers are second in the SEC with 224 yards per game rushing, behind only Arkansas in the league and 12th in the nation. They average more than 36 points per game, fourth in the league and 18th in the country.
