Tide taking a no-frills approach to Tennessee

TUSCALOOSA | There won’t be any orange jerseys on scout team players at University of Alabama football practices this week. “Rocky Top” won’t be blaring from loudspeakers at the practice field or in the locker room.

Nick Saban is taking a no-frills approach to his first game against the Tennessee Volunteers as Alabama’s head coach. While some previous Crimson Tide coaching staffs have used such motivational tactics to emphasize to the team
how important the Alabama-Tennessee game is, Saban doesn’t believe in gimmicks.

“I’ve really never done much of that,” the coach said, “so I don’t have a lot of experience in how that affects you one way or the other. I don’t have any plans to do it. If somebody else has plans to do it and wants to do it, thinks it’s going to help us, I’m all for it.

I am glad he is keeping the emotions on an even plane and focusing on the basics for this game. The emotions will be cranked up without any help when both teams take the field.

To beat the Vols Bama will have to play their best game of the season or go down in flames. If they give up on the Vols; TN will run all over them.

I would like to Believe that but we will have to wait and see if that is so. If Bama's not pumped up for the Vols they never will be.

The key will be Bama's defense forcing a turnover early or at least a three and out. The offense needs to put seven up on the board as soon as they touch the ball. If Alabama does this they can throttle the Volunteers early and take them out of thier gameplan.

Storied rivalry with Tennessee enveloped in business-like atmosphere

TUSCALOOSA -- Saturday's big game kicks off in the morning, meaning no national television coverage for the first time in 19 years.
Neither team is in the nation's top 15, and home fans spent the better part of this week discussing a controversial play from the previous weekend.
Now seems as good a time as any to wonder: What is happening to the Alabama-Tennessee football rivalry?

Nothing has changed in this rivalry as far as me and the rest of Tennessee is concerned. Let the rest of the nation watch what they want. I can see the Vols and the Tide going at each others throats just like they allways have come Sat. I cant wait, I hope Tenn. is going to jump on the Tide early and try and put them out of their misery. But, to be realistic, it will probably be a back and forth game and be close right down to the very end when Tenn will pull out a last second win.VOLS RULE!!!!!
